There is a war brewing on in America, and it is not the so-called “war on terror”. Frankly, the war on terror has been around since the dawn of man. This is a more concerted war led by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. Furthermore, trumpeted by the people who follow them like a pride of Lion’s on the hunt for the next meal. In the jungle, only the strong survive. There is no pitying the weak.
We as humans, however, are programmed differently. We have feelings and a wide array of emotions. Much like a pride we also have a sense to belong, but the uniqueness we have as humans is that we all know that eventually we are going to die. So, why are we willing to do whatever it takes to live when we know someday we will die? That is a question for our maker, and it is a question that is above my pay grade.
On January 12, 2010, Haiti fell victim to a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. The death toll, by many estimates, will far surpass one half million people. This is unheard of in America, although we have had our share of horrific events. We have saw the horrific events of Pearl Harbor and 9/11. We have saw natural disasters like Hurricane’s Carol, Adam, Katrina and Ike and we have also bared witness to earthquakes. With each horrific event the people of this great Country have united in full-fledged support of one another. We, however, have never witnessed an event like this in this century.
The recent tragedy in Haiti has brought out the compassion and caring of most Americans to the people of the poorest Country in the western hemisphere. A compassion that has compelled people, some of which unemployed, to give money and life saving resources. This is who we are. This is what we do. However, some have made this horrific event a political tactic to rail against President Obama.
As alluded to earlier, Rush Limbaugh has led this effort. It started when he stated. “I want him (Obama) to fail”, and he has not let up. The other day Rush made a bold call to action for his radio listeners to not give to the many charitable organizations that are helping the people of Haiti. He stated that we are already donating to the people of Haiti in the form of tax dollars, and he has also not backed down from this statement. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, when pressed for comment, stated “stupid people say stupid things”. This is not stupid, nor is Rush.
One of the many definitions of the word stupid, as defined by Merriam-Webster, is “dulled in feeling or sensation”. The comment that Rush Limbaugh made serves as the opposite. It was made with strong feeling and a strong sensation that the World is wrong, he is right. In fact, Rush is the one that is wrong.
The mere idea that people should not give $5, $10 or $20 to the poorest of the poor while Rush makes a reported Thirty-three million dollars a year serves to prove; Rush is a self-serving, self loathing, egotistical, pompous, arrogant imbecile jerk who suffers from severe paranoia and d illusion. Anyone who choses to ignore the plight of others while benefiting from same people who help to pay his bloated salary is not stupid–It is not American, and Rush serves alone as the King of his own empire. It is an empire of one. The empire of idiots.
