Metallica: “The Day That Never Comes” (lyrics)…

If there was any word that is polarizing it would have to be “heavy-metal”. I’m just amazed at how people either act like they are repulsed by the word or they bob their heads–waving the universal heavy metal sign. To hate heavy-metal music is to not understand it.

One of the most famous heavy-metal bands out there is Metallica. Frankly, Metallica hasn’t been a heavy-metal band since the release of “The Black” album. This is a truth that holds universal to the die-hard fans.

Metallica has been a band that has survived for over 30 years. In addition, they have grown and evolved. Their lyrics have meaning. They are sharp, and that is why I love them. I have been on this Metallica “kick”, as of late. I’m sure I have ticked off a few people with my Twitter posts chock full of Metallica lyrics that go on and on! However, here is a song that has touched me so–a song about the inner turmoil of a soldier fighting the war in Iraq.

The song is “The day that never comes”. See if you can decipher the lyrics, and I’m sure you’ll fall in love.

Born to push you around,
Better just stay down.
You pull away,
He hits the flesh,
You hit the ground.

Mouth so full of lies,
Tend to black your eyes.
Just keep them closed,
Keep praying,
Just keep waiting.

(Chorus:)
Waiting for the one!
The day that never comes!
When you stand up and feel the warmth!
But the sunshine never comes!

No the sun shine never comes.

Push you cross that line,
Just stay down this time.
Hide in yourself,
Crawl in yourself,
You’ll have your time.

God I’ll make them pay,

Take it back one day. I’ll end this day
I’ll splatter color on this gray
Waited for the one
The day that never comes
When you stand up and feel the warmth
but the sunshine never comes

Love is a four letter word
And never spoken here
Love is a four letter word
Here in this prison
I suffer this no longer
I put an end to
This I swear!
This I swear!
The sun will shine
This I swear!
This I swear!
This I swear!

Give up trying to figure it out? Here’s the video–that will put it all into perspective 🙂
