As many of you know, Rolling Stone came out with a new edition containing a provocative cover of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, and the editors had no idea that it would stir some controversy. I, myself, have no idea either. The Boston bombing had extensive coverage both in local and cable news. The media focused on the two brothers, their parents, their uncle, the Boston Police, the F.B.I.investigation, the victims, the bloody streets, friends of the suspects, the chase, the hijacking, the shooting death of the campus police officer, the city lockdown and the two hundred rounds of bullets fired into a boat containing Dzhokar. Days before the suspects photos were released–the media and individuals speculated on who the suspects were. I, being one of them. In the end, one suspect was dead and the other was in custody. The media found it’s way to move on to the next pressing story, case closed. A few months later Rolling Stone comes out with this cover and the people were outraged!! Outraged I tell ya.

You wanna know what outrages me? The same people outraged at this cover are the same people who thought that George Zimmerman was justified in shooting Trayvon Martin. You wanna know what outrages me? The same people that find this cover offensive are the same ones that watched every moment of the news coverage. The many people rooting for him to die on a boat.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not defending this shitbag, but I’m not going to defend your bullshit phony outrage. If you ask me who the worst person to ever have existed it would be Adolf Hitler, and he had a popular cable channel built around him. Remember the History Channel before all the fake reality shows it peddles? Hitler slaughtered over 11,000,000 Jews, and he is in every history book in the World. His face and his vile movement will forever be published in every single history book we are forced to read.

Osama bin Laden was the mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The attacks involved four planes crashing into 3 targets killing over 3,000 people. Where was the outrage when his face made the cover of Time Magazine? Time Magazine, a publication that reserves that precious space for The President of The United States. Yeah, I missed that event. However, what I didn’t miss is the media replaying those planes smashing into the World Trade Towers. I lost the love of my life on the American flight that smashed into the World Trade tower. Do you think that I want to relive that moment over, and over, and over, and over, and over again?

Do you think that the victims of the Aurora Colorado shootings want to see the shooter on the local news every time he makes a court appearance? Do you think the victims families of the Phoenix Safeway shootings want to see the shooter on television? Do you think former Representative Gabby Giffords and her husband want to see him? Once again, where is the outrage? I’ll tell you where the outrage is…it’s in the media in an effort to exploit this tragedy once again for ratings.

I hope that I’m not the only one that understood the purpose of the cover. My interpretation is that Rolling Stone was trying to show the face of evil. The problem with showing the face of evil is that it exists all around us. The face of evil can exist in us, our children, our neighbors, our coworkers and in our schools. Evil is all around us and it is only exposed when it’s too late. More importantly, evil is created.

Have you ever wondered what would posses a 16-year-old to walk into his school and open fire on his fellow students? It has nothing to do with the constant bullying. Noooooooo. Have you ever wondered what would cause blacks to riot when they see something wrong? It has nothing to do with being treated like a subhuman for hundreds of years. Noooooooo, and have you ever wondered what would make a Muslim turn against this Country and its people? It has nothing to do with constantly being profiled as a terrorist. Noooooooo.

I have been saying over, and over, and over, and over, and over again that we need to wake the fuck up as a society. If we can’t treat others the way we want to be treated then it’s game over, and when the game is over we lose. For fucks sake, we are supposed to be living in the greatest country in the world. If we can’t get it together then don’t expect the people of Egypt, Syria, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan, China or any other country to get it together. We are supposed to be the greatest. Sadly, we are not even close. We don’t have to be a society that judges a book by its cover.

Oh yeah, we fucking torture people. Where was your outrage when you were defending it?

Oh yeah, oh yeah, we have over one hundred future Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s locked up at Gitmo. Please show me your outrage before it is too late for any of us to be outraged.

  1. Ahh Shaggie, you must be developing calluses on your fingertips with all the writing you have been doing lately. 🙂

As with everything, there are two sides to reporting such sickening crimes. On one hand the media are having multiple orgasms over their bloodlust and they really need to take a step back and let justice run its course.

On the other hand the media are doing the world a service by highlighting the chronic dis-function that all western democracies are experiencing. No matter how corrupt main stream media has become, if they weren’t out there reporting on these events we would be truly blind and dis-empowered.

Also, consumers must love this stuff because they wouldn’t report it if they weren’t making any money out of that type of information. As much as I dislike main stream media, they are doing a great service by highlighting the filthy side of humanity.

You are doing a brilliant job Shaggie by pointing out the inequities we all suffer in this strange world we live in.

    Regards, Karen
